How to Keep Busy Between Classes

By Brittany Loeffler on October 6, 2018

College is very different than high school when it comes to schedules. Classes are sporadic and you may have to find ways to keep busy between classes. Rather than having eight straight hours of sitting in a classroom, you may only have an hour of class in the morning, an hour in the afternoon, and an evening class.

So, how do you keep busy between classes, especially if you live off campus? We’ve come up with some ways to keep your day productive while on campus.

Homework

Get a jump start on the homework you were planning to do later that night. While you are still in the headspace for academia and your class, you’ll fly through your homework and thank yourself for not procrastinating. There is no better feeling than coming home at night and have nothing to do.

Grab Lunch or Coffee

Count your blessings. Some students pack their schedules airtight that they may not have time to eat lunch between classes. So, if you are looking for a way to keep busy between classes, fill yourself up with some nutritious food from the cafeteria. This is also a great opportunity to catch up with friends and focus on your social life for a little bit.

Workout time

Stopping by the school gym to fit in a quick workout is a great way to keep busy between classes. The myth of the freshman fifteen is real if you do not watch what you eat or make time to go to the gym. There is no better time to go than between classes! Pack a gym bag in the morning to bring with you. This will help you fit going to the gym into your routine, which will make it easier to stay in shape.

Meet for Group Projects

Group projects are a huge part of college life. It can be pretty difficult to get everyone in your group together in one place at the same time, so if everyone is free between classes, then that is the best time to meet. Not only will you all be free and will keep busy between classes, but you’ll work on your project instead of procrastinating.

Make Phone Calls

Making phone calls to friends and family back home is a great way to keep busy between classes. If you know that your grandmother is going to keep you on the phone for half an hour, give her a call when you know you have nothing to do but wait around for class to start. She would love to hear from you! It’s important to stay in touch and make time for the people you love even though it can slip your mind while in school.

Binge Watch Netflix

Sometimes you just need a breather between classes. There’s no shame in binge-watching your favorite shows on Netflix while sitting in the library to keep busy between classes. Start crossing things off your watch list and enjoy some much-needed relaxation. College is stressful, but that doesn’t mean you have to be stressed all the time.

Read a Book

The last thing you probably want to do is read after getting out of class. However, if you have a list of books you’d like to read for pleasure, reading is a great way to keep busy between classes. It doesn’t have to be academic or even a thought-provoking book. It can be your favorite childhood novel. Whatever you enjoy, read it!

Take a Walk on Campus

The best thing about college campuses is that they are pretty much all well maintained and beautiful. So, if the weather is nice and you’re feeling a little restless, take a walk and admire just how beautiful your college campus is to keep busy between classes. You’ll never know what you are going to stumble upon. College campuses are always hosting events or having giveaways. You may be delightfully surprised as to what you find on your campus exploration.

Visit Professor Office Hours

Stop into your professor’s office for their office hours between classes. Many students are under the impression that you have to have a problem in the class to go to your professor’s office hours. This simply is not true. Professors are happy to sit down and talk to their students about more than just the class material. You may even find that they have common interests other than their class’s subject.

Keep Busy Between Classes

It can be challenging to keep busy between classes, especially if you live off campus. You don’t have the luxury to go back to your dorm room and nap for a little while. So, keep your day productive by doing some homework or group projects, keeping up with your social life with lunches and phone calls, or just relax with Netflix and a good book. There are plenty of ways to keep busy between classes.
