Cons: May get a tough TA grading your 10 page policy brief.
Class is very relevant
Exams are short answer
Cons: n/a
Cons: I honestly think he has none..
Cares about his students
Funny and interactive
Cons: Some may be put off by his insistence that you shouldn't use Facebook/Gmail/etc. during class. He will send you out.
Cons: Gitterman is not very conversational individually. He is very seemingly nice and lively in lecture settings but in person he can seem a little cold. However, the recitation TA's are very nice and explain things well so there is no need to converse or deal with Gitterman individually unless you are in an honors section.
Cons: Kinda set in his beliefs and isn't afraid to push them on you in lecture.
The recitations provide an opportunity for students to discuss their personal opinions and debate
The tests are relatively easy
Cons: You will have to write a policy brief and while he gives plenty of time and fair deadlines, the TAs don't always do a good job explaining how to write this paper
People like to talk about his strict policy on Facebook, but I don't see anything wrong with paying attention to his lecture for 50 minutes instead of wasting time on the Internet.
Cons: N/A
Some people are bothered by his policies on facebook and cellphone use in class. Really isn't a big deal.
Cons: Too many reading assignments
I would recommend the course
Cons: Boring at times.
Cons: The class is super boring and he knows it.
The topic material is just painfully boring. He knows it and tries to spice it up. Some complain about his use of class time, but he is really trying hard. Extra points for really, truly caring about his students.
Cons: Have to write a fairly difficult policy brief. He uses clickers so you have to go to class.
Really funny guy. I definitely recommend his class. If you actually try you should get an A.
